Masks are optional. If you're feeling ill, please contact Merrily to rearrange your tour at another time.
All tours take place at your own risk
Merrily will confirm and send a unique meeting location in the week prior to the tour. Gallery tours usually meet in a lobby or gallery.
There are often ‘moments’ when you might see quite a bit of photography, for example; then the next month, it could be painting or something else quite different! Whatever is trending, Merrily will tailor the itinerary to include a variety of shows in different media. If you’re booking a private tour, please email Merrily if you have particular preferences.
Most tours are two-hours long. Custom private tours of one and a half hour tours are also available.
In most cases, yes, without flash.
If you’re bringing a group to Chelsea, please email Merrily for restaurant suggestions. Otherwise, there are several options for lunch, dinner and drinks around 10th Avenue between 24th and 17th Streets. But please note – galleries do not allow food and drinks.
The gallery neighborhoods are notoriously short on restrooms and galleries don’t have the facilities to accommodate the public. There are public facilities on the High Line at 16th Street, in the Chelsea Market and Chelsea Piers in Chelsea.
Older kids get inspired by great art! On the other hand, very young ones can get inspired by the great acoustics in high-ceilinged galleries… :) Generally speaking, the galleries are great for school-aged kids and teens. Being comfortable wearing a mask is also a consideration. Merrily can pitch the conversation to the right age range and we can move at a pace that works for you.
Galleries change their shows approximately every six weeks. After about a month and a half, the itinerary will be entirely new. See you again soon!
Once you purchase your ticket or book your private tour, you’ll receive an email with links and a password to join the tour.
No, you can just use your Chrome browser, but for the best experience, choose the Zoom software option. (also required if you don’t have Google Chrome). Merrily will provide links prior to the tour for both options.
Zoom is a free video conferencing app which is simple to use and provides very high quality video communication between multiple people.
Allow yourself ten minutes before the tour start time to download and install from the links Merrily will provide. It is a quick, easy process and will give you the best quality and more options to join in and interact with everyone else on the remote tour. You'll be able to choose whether other tour participants can hear and see you, and vice-versa. Zoom has many excellent video tutorials.
Consider participating in the tour on a larger screen for better viewing. A laptop/desktop is better than a phone to view the full detail of the artwork. Pick a location with a consistent high-speed internet connection. An average household internet connection is fine. (at least 1.5Mbps).
Connect your headphones/headset to your device for the best audio quality for you and for the others on the tour. This will prevent any background noise from interfering with your experience. You can mute your mic if you need to screen background noise.
Due to privacy and copyright laws, recording is not permitted unless special arrangements are made prior to the tour.
Under 18 year olds are welcome to join the tour, however, they must share a device with an adult. Under 18 year olds are not permitted to join a tour unless an adult is present with them throughout the tour.
The interactivity of the tour is an important aspect, and I suggest keeping groups to a maximum of 10 people to ensure the best experience. Larger groups can be accommodated via webinar format. Contact Merrily to discuss options for larger groups.
